Project Description

Glen Regeneration Project

This project was constructed in two phases as part of the Glen Regeneration Urban Renewal Project in Cork City. Phase 1 involved the construction of 60 no. new social housing units and the refurbishment of 2 no. blocks of flats (48 units). Phase 2 involved the construction of 54 no. new social housing units and a sizeable Community Services Centre (housing a number of local educational, family and youth services).

The role of Matt O’Mahony & Associates on this project involved the mechanical, electrical, transportation, and security services specification & design services for the entire project. We also provided construction, co-ordination and monitoring services for Phase 1 and Phase 2 on behalf of Cork City Council.

Project Details

Our Phase 1 work included specification of solar thermal installations to provide domestic hot water to the dwellings.

Our Phase 2 work involved the design and specification of a biomass-fired district heating system to service the requirements of the entire phase 2 development. This system was installed in a stand-alone boilerhouse directly across the road from the development. It provides heat and domestic hot water (via individual heat meters) to each of the 60 no. dwellings and to the 5 no. community buildings in the phase 2 development. Our phase 2 work also included design and specification of a significant Solar Photo Voltaic (PV) installation – to provide supplementary electrical power to the Community Buildings.
