As well as Building Services Engineering, Matt O’Mahony & Associates Ltd also provides expert professional witness services, whereby we are engaged by solicitors, private individuals or, by large corporations to carry out engineering evaluations on matters which may be the subject of litigation. This work is carried out for a wide variety of regular clients including most of the major insurance companies.
Our experienced Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil/Structural engineers are all qualified to Post-Graduate degree level in their fields – and regularly provide expert witness services for clients in each of the above-listed categories.
The work involves the performing of an inspection/survey at the locus of an accident or on a piece of equipment, analysis of all relevant information, and the preparation of a report. The report generally includes conclusions on the likely apportionment of responsibility from an engineering perspective. If necessary, we will attend in court for the purposes of providing sworn evidence before a judge.
We have experience in giving evidence at all levels of the Court Service (District, Circuit, and High Court). We also have extensive experience in attending at conciliation and arbitration hearings.
We regularly attend as Professional Expert Witnesses for Court Hearings on matters relating to breaches or compliance with Construction Regulations, Health, Safety & Welfare at Work Regulations and Building Regulations. This has heightened the awareness and increased the pool of knowledge in the firm in the area of the practical implementation and application of Safety Health & Welfare Regulations.
